TPS (Transaction per second)

Transaction per second (TPS) measures how many transactions a cryptocurrency network can process in one second. The TPS value varies significantly depending on the specific blockchain technology and its underlying consensus mechanism. Other factors like decentralization, security, and consensus mechanisms should also be considered when comparing different cryptocurrencies or blockchain platforms.

Some examples are:

  • Bitcoin’s TPS is around 3 to 7 due to its PoW consensus.
  • Binance Coin handles 100 to 150 TPS with Binance Smart Chain.
  • Ripple’s XRP Ledger manages thousands of TPS, ideal for cross-border payments.
  • Solana achieves an impressive 65,000+ TPS using PoH and PoS.
