InterPlanetary File System (IPFS)

IPFS is a decentralized DeFi protocol and network created to build a global, peer-to-peer file system for distributing data storage and sharing. It was created by Protocol Labs and has grown in acceptance among the blockchain and crypto communities.

IPFS is used in DeFi as a way to store and access decentralized data, including smart contract code, whitepapers, and other relevant documents.

The centralized client-server architecture of the conventional web has some drawbacks that IPFS seeks to remedy. The IPFS protocol makes use of a distributed network of connected nodes where each node keeps a fraction of the shared data, as opposed to relying on specialized servers to host and serve information. With this strategy, content dissemination is more resilient, more readily available, and more effective.
